Who Deserves the MVP this Season?

Image
The 2020-2021 Season has been one of the most riveting seasons ever! Characterized by game cancellations and strict Covid-19 regulations, the NBA has been fighting a virus that has crippled its ability to generate income via spectator game tickets. Uncertainty has been a revolving theme. At any point a "Franchise" player can test 'positive' for the virus and be out a few games. Additionally, the NBA had decided to give their Play-In tournament idea another try in an effort to increase fan attention amidst our current world-wide pandemic. Although the list of off-the-court issues this season has been lengthy, there have been numerous bright spots on the court. The MVP race this season has been tumultuous, to say the least. At one point, Lebron James looked like a clear-cut favorite, and then James Harden went on a roll, making a legitimate case for the award. At this rate, who knows who will win it, but let's take a look at our top candidates!  Steph Curry   S...

Steph Curry's Best Irrelevant Season Ever!

Image
Steph Curry is currently averaging 29.4 points per game, 6 assists per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 1.3 steals per game while shooting 48% from the field, 41% beyond the three point line, and 93% on free throw attempts. While Godly these numbers are, they are not Curry’s best. But what jumps out to me about Curry’s stats is that he is putting up these numbers at the seasoned age of 32. Very similar to Lebron, Curry is seemingly able to maintain his spectacular play even though he is getting older. All this is great, but there is one issue: The Golden State Warriors aren't very good. The Warriors currently sit in the 10th spot in the western conference standings and with only one month and a half left in the season, their chances to make the playoffs aren't looking very high. At this current rate, it looks like this great individual statistical season may be overshadowed by his team’s mediocracy.      The Dubs are 2.5 games behind the 8th seeded Memphis...

Once Overlooked Now Making a Name

Image
I believe it was the 2018 high school playoffs in Houston, TX. I was watching a 2nd round playoff game between Cypress Falls High School and Westside High School. Cy-Falls was loaded with five future college basketball players on one team. Three of them would go on to play at Division 1 schools. That is unheard of in public school basketball, because it is illegal to recruit in those schools. On the other side of the floor you had Westside’s roster. They were a good, solid team with a few low level college prospects. There were the Vanbeck twins, who were two 6’3 guards that could shoot it. Ironically, to the point I intend to make in this article, their older brother, Wes, was a former “Walk-On'' at the University of Houston who went on to earn a scholarship and subsequently, legitimate playing time for the Coogs. Anyways, one kid that I had never heard of from Westside who caught my eye was Warith Alatishe. He was a 6’7 kid that could move! He could run up and down the cour...
